Getting started
What X Trench Run is, whether it is free, and how to start flying in your browser.
What is X Trench Run?
X Trench Run is an endless arcade flying game. You pilot an X-winged starfighter through a space-station trench, steering through gaps in oncoming walls, shooting out laser gates and turrets, collecting power-ups, and fighting a boss ship that shows up at intervals. The trench keeps speeding up, and one unshielded hit ends the run.
Is X Trench Run free to play online?
Yes. xtrenchrungame.app is completely free and runs entirely in your browser. There is nothing to buy, download, or install, and there is no account. Open the page and press Launch.
Is this the same as the X Trench Run on other game sites?
It is an independent, from-scratch browser version of the same idea — the endless trench, walls with gaps, laser gates, turrets, a boss, and the Shield, Wall Destroyer, and Speed Down power-ups, with the same 1 / 5 / 5 / 50 scoring. It is drawn on an HTML canvas with no plugins, adds touch steering, auto-fire, pause, and saved stats.
Do I need to download anything or sign up?
No. The game is the website. There is no app-store download, installer, or account; your progress stays in your browser.
Gameplay and scoring
Walls, laser gates, turrets, the boss, power-ups, and how points are counted.
What are the controls?
On a keyboard, steer with the arrow keys or W, A, S, D and hold Space to fire; you can also hold the left mouse button to fire. P or Esc pauses, R restarts, F toggles auto-fire, and M mutes. On a phone or tablet, drag anywhere on the flight view to steer and hold the round fire button, or turn on auto-fire.
How does scoring work?
You earn 1 point for every wall you fly through (or smash with Wall Destroyer), 5 points for every turret you destroy, 5 points for every laser gate you disable, and 50 points for every boss you defeat. Distance flown is tracked separately in metres.
How do I get past a laser gate?
You cannot fly through the red beams. Shoot one of the two amber pillars at the sides of the trench — each lit square on a pillar is one hit left. When either pillar is destroyed the beams switch off and you can pass, scoring +5. Fly close to the side you are targeting so your cannon lines up.
What do the power-ups do?
Glowing orbs float in the trench; fly through one to collect it. S (Shield) absorbs one hit. W (Wall Destroyer) shatters every wall ahead for seven seconds, still scoring each one. T (Speed Down) slows the trench for six seconds.
Does the trench really get faster?
Yes. Speed rises steadily with distance and levels off at roughly two and a half times the starting pace. Wall openings shrink, gates need more hits, and turrets fire more often as you go.
Can I shoot through walls?
Not normally — shots that hit solid plating just spark. Shots do pass through the openings, so you can hit turrets and pillars behind a wall. With Wall Destroyer active, walls shatter on their own before they reach you.
What happens when I get hit with a shield?
The shield breaks, the screen flashes, and your ship blinks for about a second while it cannot be hit again. Pick up another S orb to restore it — shields do not stack.
Strategy
How to fly further, beat the boss, and push your best score up.
How do I beat the boss?
The boss parks ahead of you and weaves across the trench while firing fireballs aimed at your position. Keep moving sideways so shots land where you were, keep firing, and follow its path rather than its current position. Each boss you defeat is worth 50 points, and the next one has more health and fires more often.
How do I get a higher score?
Steer early towards openings you can already see, return to the centre between walls, and fire almost constantly so turrets die before they shoot. Disable every laser gate for the +5, and save Speed Down for the fast late game. Bosses are the big points: surviving one is worth fifty walls.
Devices, saving, and settings
Mobile play, supported browsers, local progress, sound, and auto-fire.
Does the game save my best score?
Yes. Your best score, best distance, longest flight, number of runs, and lifetime totals of walls, turrets, gates, and bosses are saved in your browser’s local storage, along with your sound and auto-fire settings. Nothing is sent to a server, so a different device, browser profile, or cleared site data starts fresh.
Can I play X Trench Run on mobile?
Yes. The flight view and controls fit on a phone screen without scrolling. Drag anywhere to steer — the ship follows your finger’s movement so your thumb never covers it — and hold the fire button or switch on auto-fire.
How do I turn the sound off?
Press M or use the speaker button in the top corner of the game. All sounds are generated live in your browser, and your choice is remembered next time.
Why did my game pause on its own?
The run pauses automatically when you switch tabs, the window loses focus, or you scroll the game fully off screen, so you never crash while not looking. Press P, Space, or the Resume button to continue.
How do I reset my stats?
Open Stats from the start or game-over screen and press Reset stats, then press again to confirm. This clears every saved record on this browser and cannot be undone. Your sound and auto-fire settings are kept.
Which browsers are supported?
Any current browser with JavaScript: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari on desktop, plus their mobile versions. If the screen stays black, update the browser, allow scripts for this site, and reload.
